Hi Everyone,

Hope you're all having a delightful summer!

We're hosting a contra dance on Sunday, August 20th from 7:30 - 10:30 pm
at our usual spot, The Life Center next to The Sacred Heart Church in
Northampton.

We'll have Lisa Greenleaf calling to the music of Crowfoot, a trio of
some very talented musicians. Lisa is a fantastic contra dance caller
and also a Modern Western Square dancer.

This is part of an effort to drum up support for our next class. What
we hope to do is give people a little taste of what Modern Western
Square Dancing is by having Lisa teach a move or two to the non square
dancing crowd and having Ken call to a demo square. We will, of course,
need some people willing to dance in the demo, so please let me know if
you're interested. Anyone from our group can dance in it, I just want
to make sure there'll be at least 8 of us.

For those of you who don't know what contra dancing is, it's a form of
dancing that's similar, though not nearly as complicated as square
dancing. It contains a repeating pattern of moves done to live music.
Anyone can do it, and most just jump into a dance and learn - so no
special classes or preparation necessary. The best part is that you
already know most of the moves! There's only 25 or so calls used in
contra dancing and they're the more basic ones. It's a bit more
energetic then square dancing, so wear light clothing and dance shoes if
you have them (though they're not necessary).

I'm still trying to arrange a plus level square dance sometime in
August, preferable before the contra dance, so stay tuned and I'll send
more info out soon about that.

Thanks,
Bethany
